On August 8, 2025, during the full moon of August, the Elderly Activity Center of the Shuigou Valley City Nursing Home welcomed the Karen ethnic group’s annual traditional festival — the Thread Tying Festival. The Thread Tying Festival is an important folk custom that has been passed down for generations among the Karen people. On this day, people wrap white threads around their wrists to pray for peace, express blessings, and convey the elders’ protection and expectations for the younger generation.

On the day of the event, residents, led by the elders, participated in the thread-tying ceremony in an orderly manner. The younger generation accepted blessings with their hands pressed together, while the elders softly offered their words of goodwill. The atmosphere was solemn yet warm.

Tying a white thread is not only the passing on of blessings, but also the continuation of culture. On this vibrant land, tradition and modernity blend together, culture and daily life go hand in hand, jointly painting the true and warm scenery of Shuigou Valley. A single white thread carries blessings, and a ceremony bears the weight of heritage. Within the customs of the Karen people lies the enduring spirit of Shuigou Valley’s residents — respect for elders, gratitude, simplicity, and warmth.
